BCCI called Tanush Kotian to Australia to fill the vacant place of Ravi Ashwini in Border Gavaskar Trophy

Tanush Kotian and Axar Ptel

Tanush Kotian was on Monday added to India’s squad for the remaining two Tests in Australia in place of the recently retired Ravichandran Ashwin.

Mumbai off-spinner and middle-order batsman Tanush Kotian was on Monday included in the Indian squad in place of the recently retired Ravichandran Ashwin for the remaining two Tests in Australia. BCCI has included all-rounder Tanush Kotian in the Indian squad for the fourth and final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The 26-year-old Kotian, who was on India A’s tour of Australia, is also included as cover for Washington Sundar.

Kotian has been included in the team as a backup for Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar and to keep the number of players in the squad intact. He will only come into the picture if either Ravindra Jadeja or Washington Sundar gets injured.

Axar Patel was initially expected to be called up to Australia, but sources claim that the left-arm spinner requested a leave following the first two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy because of a family obligation.

Kotian has been included in the squad after Ashwin’s sudden retirement from international cricket after the drawn Test in Brisbane. The 38-year-old Ravichandran Ashwini ended his illustrious career as India’s second-highest wicket-taker after Anil Kumble.
