
In a nail bitting match South Africa defeated Afganistan in super over in ICC Men’s T20 world cup 2026 by 4 runs here at Narendra Modi Stadium at Ahmedabad . The match went for 2 super over to decide the winner of the match. It was really a treat to watch match. Both the teams played their best to get momentum going in their favour. But Finally it was South Africa who hold their nerve and defeated Afganistan by 4 runs in 2nd super over of the exciting match.
The match no 13 of T20 world cup reached its climax when the match reached super over as the score remained level at 187 runs from both the side.
Before the match went for super over Afganistan entered to crease to chase a target of 188 runs. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz played a blistering innings of 84 runs of just 42 balls with 4 boundaries and 7 sixes. But except him no other played contributed in this run chase. But towards the end because of Noor Ahmad fighting effort match endedin a tie.
Then Super over fight started. Afganistan came to bat and put 17 runs on the board . There after South Africa came down and they also scored 17 runs, as a result of which the super over contest ended in a tie and the match went for 2nd super over.
In Second super over, batting first South Africa scored massive 23 runs with 3 big sixes, two from Miller and 1 from the balde of stubbs. Chasing a target of 24 runs in six balls Afganistan Could manage to score on 19 runs, Hence lost the match to South Africa.
Afganistan made wrong move to send Mohammad Nabi to chase the big 24 runs in just six balls who seems to be out of touch through out the match where as they had their in form batsman Gurbaz who had already scored 84 runs in just 42 balls. The very first ball Nabi faced went for a dot ball and in the second ball Navi got out to Maharaj. Then Gurbaz came to crease and hit 3 consecutive six to score 18 runs. Afganistan was needing one big hit in the last ballto win. This time Keshab Maharaj bowed a wide ball, hence 5 runs requiring in the last ball, but unfortunately Gubaaz failed to hit that for a boundary and Afganistan lost the match to South Africa.
Here sending Nabi to chase first and missing the first two balls by Mohammad Nabi maked the difference for Afganistan. Had Gurbaz come in first instead of Nabi, the result could have been different. It could have been that the match would have gone in Afghanistan’s favor.
Earlier to this Afganistan won the toss at Narendra Modi stadium of Gujarat and captain Rashid Khan decided to field first. South African captain Eden Markram who opens the innings with wicket keeper Quinton de Kock could score just 5 runs. But After this there was massive 2nd wicket partnership of 114 runs off just 61 balls between Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton. Quinton de Kock scored 52 runs off 34 balls and Rickelton scored 61 runs off 27 balls.
But after the departure of these two batsman any other South Afican batsman could not score so easily, hence not able to maintain the run rate created by two half centurians of South African innings except Dewald Bravis, who scored 22 runs of 18 balls.
All rounder Marco Jansen scored quick 16 runs off just 7 balls towards the end of their innings. In their 20 overs South Africa put a moderate total 187 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. For Afganistan Azmatullah Omarzai was the highest wicket taker who took 3 wickets in his 4 overs . Rashid khan took 2 wickets to his credit.
